Overview

Leading global professional services consultancy seeks a Legal Director to lead on IP strategy across the global business as part of the in-house legal team. This newly created position joins a supportive and dynamic team in a strategic role to be the IP legal lead on trademarks, patents and all IP-related matters. It will engage at Partner level, across jurisdictions, to influence strategy and approach to protect and promote IP developed by the business, in addition to substantive legal advisory work and negotiations.

Responsibilities
  • Advise on a broad range of UK, EU and international IP matters, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets.
  • Conduct due diligence for IP transactions and M&A activities; address cybersecurity considerations.
  • Coordinate and protect the trademark portfolio; refine the patent strategy across the business and member firms; analyse infringement risk.
  • Perform horizon scanning for new developments and advise on new potential compliance obligations.
  • Collaborate with external counsel and work with colleagues in the global team and across international offices.
  • Engage at Partner level to influence strategy and approach to IP protection and promotion within the business.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Over 15 years’ PQE with proven experience as an IP lawyer, including global IP strategy and implementation, complex IP matters, and managing IP portfolios across jurisdictions.
  • Experience with a top-tier City law firm and/or in-house roles.
  • Experience with emerging technologies, including AI.
Profile and Working Style
  • Seasoned IP strategist capable of operating at board and partner levels with gravitas, business acumen, and the ability to improve processes across the business.
  • Calm, proactive, versatile, efficient, credible and persuasive; able to prioritise and adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment.
