A local support organization is seeking a Personal Assistant to provide care and support for Phoebe, a vibrant individual in Glasgow. Responsibilities include assisting with personal care, encouraging independence, and attending college and leisure activities. The role requires a clean driving licence, patience, and respect for LGBTQ+ rights, with a pay rate of £14.50 per hour. Flexible scheduling options are available.
Phoebe is a good‑humoured and colourful individual who enjoys good banter, family, friends, getting out and about, and watching her favourite TV programmes. She enjoys activities such as going out in her car, attending music classes, playing keyboard, watching TV, going to the cinema, visiting gay bars, the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice (PPW), shopping, going to the theatre, and taking art classes.
This role involves supporting Phoebe's attendance at college three times per week, providing encouragement, attending music sessions once per week and art classes once per week. On weekends Phoebe's routine is more flexible and activities can vary.
As a personal assistant, you’ll assist with personal and physical care and support, including hoisting, driving Phoebe's car, pushing her manual wheelchair, supporting her when using her electric wheelchair, changing her, and providing medication support.
Daily activities may include going to college, the Prince and Princess of Wales Trust, or to The Fort or Silverburn. You may attend the hairdresser/nail salon with Phoebe or simply spend quality time at home. Overall, you will encourage and support Phoebe to carry out daily activities, leisure activities and to maintain her independence.
Qualities required: a sense of humour, good banter, patience, kindness, trustworthiness, colourfulness, and respect for LBTQ+ issues/rights. A clean driving licence is required to help with transport, and experience in hoisting and personal care is desirable.
The role is based in Kirkintilloch; reliable travel to and from the area is essential. Weekly hours are up to 16 (minimum 8 hours per shift), with availability across seven days. We are happy to discuss schedules.
Phoebe lives in a busy family household with other siblings who also have additional support needs; understanding and tolerance from others are essential.
Rate of pay: £14.50 per hour. If interested, please apply. Tel: 0141 550 4455 (quote ref. GCIL.CC/JW/1.25).
