Job Details: This is a permanent full time position, working a 37 hour week, flexibly between 7am and 7pm, Monday – Friday.
Responsibilities
- Lead an off-site Professional Scientific Services (PSS) team of technical staff to maintain high quality and productivity standards, ensure client requirements are satisfied, and exceed client expectations through effective leadership and quality operational management. Serve as a key day-to-day client contact.
- Spend up to 20% of time on leadership duties and at least 80% on technical or administrative activities, with priorities ensuring client work is not compromised.
- Coordinate and lead the PSS team to optimise productivity, quality, documentation, work schedules, safety and housekeeping.
- Develop, coach, motivate, and sustain morale through teambuilding and reward systems recognizing team success.
- Communicate regularly with the client and Eurofins to ensure information sharing and immediate action on issues.
- Conduct performance appraisals and hold regular one-to-one meetings to monitor performance and development.
- Handle client queries and collaborate with other teams to problem solve as needed.
- Participate in investigations related to team deliverables as required.
- Provide practical support for small-scale manufacturing and pre-formulation activities for drug product batches, including planning, execution (setup and clean down) and documentation; example activities include roller compaction, blending, tablet compression, coating, and encapsulation, plus in-use stability activities.
- Support product and materials characterization (e.g., particle size analysis, powder flow, rheology, and polymer characterization).
- Interpret data and contribute to writing internal development protocols and reports; write lab reports ensuring accurate and timely data reporting and analysis.
- Support design, prototype and scale-up of drug product formulations and manufacturing processes; provide technical support to downstream activities including product control strategy, technology transfer and launch, and relevant protocols and reports.
- Own equipment and instrumentation, assist with maintenance, upkeep and calibration.
- Contribute to wider scientific capability development via internal technical networks and ongoing technology initiatives.
- Research and summarize information from multiple sources to inform gap analysis and formulation development.
- Conduct analysis using fully electronic media including electronic notebooks; familiarisation with ALCOA data recording principles.
- Support continuous improvement processes and perform additional duties as directed by the client contact.
- Write or review SOPs, protocols, technical reports, and risk assessments as required.
Qualifications
- A degree in Chemistry or a related discipline is required.
- A fundamental knowledge and practical application of Organic Chemistry to pharmaceutical drug design is essential.
- Experience in Leadership & Management.
- Relevant experience in Material Science and analytical tools and techniques within a group organization.
- Strong foundation with traditional analytical techniques and modern instrumental equipment (e.g., particle size, PXRD, DSC, TGA); sound knowledge of analysis methods and tools.
- Knowledge of Design of Experiments (DoE) and use of Minitab; knowledge of material science is advantageous.
