Job Advertisement: Food Service Assistant

Location: Clydebank Campus

Salary: 14.27 per hour

Hours: 30 hours per week, Term Time (40 weeks per year)

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, between 7.30am and 3.30pm

About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Food Service Assistant to join our catering team at our Clydebank Campus. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a busy, friendly, and customer-focused environment where you will support the preparation, service, and delivery of high-quality food and refreshments to students, staff, and visitors. You will play an important part in maintaining excellent standards of hygiene, safety, and customer service while supporting the day-to-day catering operations on campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the preparation, finishing, and serving of food.
  • Serve customers efficiently and courteously, ensuring correct portion control.
  • Support the receipt, storage, and monitoring of stock.
  • Operate the point-of-sale and stock management system.
  • Handle cash responsibly, including reconciliation and banking.
  • Carry out cleaning duties, including sanitising kitchen and service areas and using approved cleaning methods.
  • Prepare items for display, such as sandwiches, salads, desserts, and bottled/canned drinks.
  • Ensure all work meets high standards of hygiene, quality, and safety.
  • Work in line with the Health and Safety at Work Act and Food Safety Legislation.
  • Provide information to other college departments and work collaboratively with colleagues.
About You
  • Has a good understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act and Food Safety Legislation.
  • Is willing to undertake training as required.
  • Has experience working in a catering or food service environment (desirable).
  • Is confident working both as part of a team and with limited supervision.
  • Has good communication and customer service skills.
  • Can work safely, follow procedures, and manage time effectively.
  • Has basic IT skills to support use of the point-of-sale and stock systems (desirable).
  • Is flexible, reliable, and motivated.

A current Food Hygiene Certificate would be an advantage but is not essential.
