Job summary

A community support organization is seeking Floating Support Workers in the UK to assist individuals facing mental health challenges. This role involves community support, risk assessments, and collaboration with various services. Candidates should have experience with complex backgrounds and be available for bank hours. NVQ/Diploma Level 2 in Health & Social Care is desirable. This position offers variable shifts with no guaranteed regular hours.

Job description
Overview

Floating Support Workers are recruited to join the team across Brighton and Hove. You may need to support in additional local areas as appropriate. The role is bank/variable shifts; local knowledge is beneficial for navigating to multiple locations. You will provide community-based support for individuals with mental health and wellbeing needs, working with various services to help individuals meet their goals and develop independent living and social skills in the community.

Key responsibilities include supporting participants to achieve outcomes through support plans, risk assessments, and regular reviews; encouraging participation in community activities; working with community partners and other SIG services; recognising signs of deteriorating health and initiating interventions to prevent crises; completing safeguarding and other referrals as required; supporting participants with medications supervision, hospital appointments, bills/correspondence checking, and prompting personal care. Shift pattern is ad-hoc, varying across days and potentially including weekends; regular weekly shifts are not guaranteed.

Screening of applications will occur in July with interviews planned for August.

Responsibilities
  • Support participants to achieve desired outcomes/goals through support plans, risk assessments, and regular reviews.
  • Develop and encourage participation in activities and events within the community.
  • Work alongside community partners and other SIG services.
  • Recognise signs of deteriorating mental health, physical health, or other health implications and initiate appropriate interventions to prevent crisis or other risks.
  • Complete safeguarding and other referrals when required.
  • Support participants in medications supervision, hospital appointments, bills/correspondence checking and compliance, prompting personal care.
  • Adhere to shift patterns for bank hours, which are ad-hoc and may include Monday to Sunday; there may be a possibility to gain weekly regular shifts but this cannot be guaranteed.
Essential qualifications and experience
  • IT proficiency, ability to learn new software programs, basic Microsoft experience.
  • Experience of working with people of complex backgrounds, including in the criminal justice field, mental health, and/or substance misuse, or a good understanding of the sector.
  • Understanding of the housing and social needs of people with multiple and complex needs.
  • Able to influence and negotiate positive outcomes with others.
Desirable qualifications
  • Appropriate qualification: NVQ/Diploma Level 2 in Health & Social Care/Community Justice, or professional equivalent.
  • Experience of providing housing support and practical assistance within a residential or outreach support role.
  • Experience creating co-produced support plans and providing appropriate interventions for service users, liaising with other professionals.
