About the Business

This is an opportunity to join a large, established services business based in Birmingham, operating at significant scale within a well‑resourced finance function. This Financial Tax Accountant role would suit someone who enjoys owning tax compliance and reporting processes, while working closely with wider finance teams to monitor legislative change, manage risk, and deliver practical, commercial solutions that support informed decision‑making.

Main Duties
  • Prepare and review VAT returns across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring accurate and timely submissions in line with local regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate the collection and review of staff expense information to support annual employer tax reporting requirements.
  • Partner with the central tax function to deliver analysis and reporting that supports the annual corporation tax computation, including the identification of unusual or non‑recurring items and discussions around tax‑related cash flows with treasury colleagues.
  • Maintain clear and robust documentation of tax processes and controls, including ongoing management of the tax risk and control framework, supporting compliance with Senior Accounting Officer requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency within tax processes through automation, system enhancements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing accurate tax documentation and responding to audit queries.
  • Work closely with finance teams, commercial functions, and external bodies to resolve tax matters and ensure appropriate tax treatment of transactions.
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation, assess potential impacts on the business, and support the implementation of required compliance updates.
Location / Office / Culture

The role is based in Birmingham, with a hybrid working model of three days in the office and two from home. You'll join a large, collaborative finance team where supportive managers promote development, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement. What We Are Looking For
  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA qualified with a strong grounding in tax and finance.
  • Solid experience in tax accounting and compliance within a complex or multinational environment, with strong VAT exposure.
  • Good working knowledge of UK tax legislation, VAT processes, and corporation tax principles.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex rules and apply practical solutions.
  • Clear and confident communicator, able to explain tax matters to non‑specialists and work collaboratively across teams.
  • Highly accurate with strong attention to detail when preparing returns and documentation.
  • Confident user of finance systems and tax reporting tools; experience improving or automating processes is an advantage.
