Role: Financial Operations Accountant

Location: Glasgow, Scotland (Hybrid Working)

An established and forward-thinking leader in the investment sector is seeking a skilled newly Chartered Accountant to join its finance team. This organisation focuses on investing in businesses that positively impact the environment, health, society, and the economy.

Based in Glasgow, this role offers a 12-month maternity cover opportunity for a high-caliber professional with experience in Commerce and Industry, ideally within the renewable energy asset management space.

Reporting to the Financial Operations Manager, the successful candidate will manage the financial deliverables for a portfolio of 30+ companies, ensuring timely and accurate reporting and maintaining the quality of financial and management information. The finance operations team consists of four members (within a wider finance team of eleven), and the role involves close collaboration with both financial and non-financial stakeholders across the business.

Responsibilities

Team Mentorship

Mentor less experienced team members.
Delegate tasks appropriately to ensure efficient workflow.

Portfolio Financial Management

Lead the monthly and quarterly financial close process for a portfolio of SPVs and holding companies.
Review trial balances, journals, and financial statements prepared by third-party administrators.
Prepare and review management accounts, including variance analysis and commentary.
Prepare statutory accounts and manage portfolio consolidations.
Oversee VAT return submissions for accuracy and timeliness.
Assist external advisers in preparing corporation tax returns.
Reconcile intercompany balances and support transfer pricing compliance.
Collaborate with Commercial Finance teams to align asset performance reporting.

Business Partnering

Deliver high-quality monthly and ad-hoc reports using tools such as Power BI.
Analyse portfolio company performance and present key KPIs to stakeholders.
Partner with technical, operations, and data teams to provide performance commentary.

Risk Management

Ensure portfolio compliance with local GAAP and statutory filing requirements.
Review lead schedules for contractual compliance and flag deviations.

Internal Controls & Process Improvement

Maintain and enhance internal control frameworks and process documentation.
Support finance transformation projects, including system upgrades and automation initiatives.
Ensure proper documentation is in place for all portfolio calculations and balances.
Maintain adherence to internal reporting procedures.

Key Requirements

Chartered Accountant with relevant asset management experience, preferably in the energy sector.
Strong planning skills with the ability to work independently.
Problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach.
Able to work to tight deadlines with resilience and professionalism.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Advanced Excel proficiency; experience with lender and debt reporting is advantageous.
Quick learner with new software and ability to optimise reporting processes.
