Financial Accountant

Contract: Controls, Risk and Transformation

Location: London, E14 9SH

Hours of work: 37.5

Contract Type: Permanent

As a Financial Accountant, you will be part of the UK&I Controlling function - a high-performing team encompassing controls and assurance, financial reporting, and accounting services. The role focuses on balance sheet control as well as income statement management and analysis.

You will work within a robust internal financial controls framework, completing Controls Self-Assessments, ensuring control procedures are adhered to, and implementing recommendations from Financial Controls.

Job Description

In this role, you will play a key role in supporting the Senior Financial Accountant in implementing process and procedural improvements, helping to drive efficiencies in cost management.

Your responsibilities will include fulfilling financial obligations across customer contracts, ensuring accounts are reported accurately and reconciled in a timely manner. You will be instrumental in managing core financial transactional processes, with a particular focus on assessing and anticipating finance-related needs, and proactively communicating these to key customers and ISS stakeholders.

A central aspect of this position is the delivery of value-added financial services to Account Leadership and customers, aligned with the organisation's overall business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations in compliance with UK&I reconciliation requirements, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting by proactively implementing reviewer recommendations.
  • Support external audits, Group and UK&I internal audits, and Financial Controls & Assurance reviews.
  • Perform month-end close activities for all allocated accounts.
  • Execute month-end close tasks, including the calculation, review, and processing of accruals, prepayments, and revenue-related transactions across customer contracts.
  • Assist the Senior Financial Accountant in reviewing overdue accounts receivable and trade working capital reports, taking corrective action where necessary.
  • Investigate and explain variances from forecasts.
  • Run the open purchase order report weekly, reviewing all open orders and keeping aged POs to a minimum.
  • Support the Senior Financial Accountant in Key Account Manager/Director business reviews and assist Finance Business Partners with customer reporting activities.
  • Carry out balance sheet control activities, including the preparation of prepayments, accruals, fixed assets, and contract receivables.
Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications
  • Qualified, part-qualified, or actively studying towards an accountancy qualification (ACCA, ACA, CIMA, or equivalent), or qualified by relevant experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex information and convey it clearly to others.
  • Sound judgement and effective decision-making capabilities.
  • Exceptional organisation, planning, and time management skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Resilience under pressure, with the confidence to challenge the status quo.
  • Intermediate-level Excel skills (essential); knowledge of Navision and/or OneStream is an advantage.
