Contract Type: Full time, permanent

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday

Location: Hatfield, Hertfordshire (office-based)

Salary: £60k-£70k

Financial Controller

Main Duties Summary
  • Through management of the finance team:
    • Create of main service line reconciliation and payment reports.
    • Produce regular financial reporting for both internal and external stakeholders.
    • Take ultimate responsibility for the invoicing of customers, credit/debt control and provision of information required by external parties for book-keeping, accountancy, VAT control and payroll.
    • Undertake finance functions of the business including: corporation tax, VAT control, accountancy and payroll management.
    • Support ad hoc finance queries from other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead the finance team by example, acting as a source of knowledge and developmental support.
  • Coach the existing finance team to become more rounded professionals by imparting knowledge and experience and encourage growth.
  • Regularly analyse finance system/process/activity efficiencies and implement improvements following discussion with the FC.
  • Be aware of, and adhere to, all FCA and Consumer Duty principles and guidelines and be a representative of the visions and values of the company.
  • Become familiar with the Company purpose and values, making it core to everything undertaken and with all interactions with colleagues, partners and customers.
Person Specification

The role would suit a relatively recently qualified individual with a clear desire for further advancement into managing an all-encompassing finance function. Equally, the role would suit an experienced Finance Manager who is excited by the challenge of contributing towards the continued rapid growth of a SME. However, such an individual must be willing to ‘roll up their sleeves’ and get involved in understanding, supporting and assessing all existing financial processes.

The role involves both the management of a team of 4, as well as direct involvement in day-to-day financial reconciliation and management reporting tasks. Accuracy, attention to detail, problem solving skills as well as a solid understanding of accountancy principles are essential requirements.

After a 3-6-month period the successful candidate will be expected to work autonomously and be able to drive the completion of error‑free financial reports to all the stakeholders with only minimal involvement of the Financial Controller. Bookkeeping, VAT control, accountancy and payroll management will then be handed over from the incumbent and processes will be assessed and integrated into the finance team.

Qualifications and Experience

Degree-level education; Accountancy chartership with QPE 2+ years Experience and interest leading, coaching and developing other qualified and non-qualified finance team members; Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; Experience in financial services/insurance/regulated industry desirable but not essential.
