Job description

Belmont Recruitment are currently looking for a Finance / Accountancy Officer to join Conwy County Borough Council's Corporate Finance Team (Schools Support). This is a temporary contract for 3-6 months with a view to extend. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in supporting schools across the borough, providing financial expertise and ensuring that Headteachers and Governing Bodies have the guidance they need to manage their budgets effectively.

Responsibilities
  • Provide financial support and advice to Headteachers and Governing Bodies in line with Service Level Agreements.
  • Assist in preparing annual budgets for Primary, Secondary, and Special Schools.
  • Contribute to the closure of year-end accounts and the production of final accounts.
  • Support schools with financial projections to maximise resources and improve efficiency.
  • Carry out regular school visits, providing guidance on budgets, interpreting reports, and resolving administrative or financial issues.
  • Investigate and respond to financial queries from schools, suppliers, contractors, and internal colleagues.
  • Maintain financial reporting systems, including monthly reconciliations with the Authority's ledger.
  • Ensure compliance with VAT regulations, Financial Regulations, and Contract Standing Orders.
  • Provide assistance on creditor payments, order logging, and adherence to financial procedures.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and financial practices.
Qualifications
  • Association of Accounting Technicians qualification (AAT) or equivalent/part-qualified.
  • Good knowledge of accountancy/numeracy, with the ability to analyse and present financial information.
  • Strong IT skills, including experience with financial systems, spreadsheets, and databases.
