Job description
Field Service Engineer

Location: Bristol

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000

My client is seeking a skilled and motivated Service Engineer to provide planned servicing and reactive breakdown support for specialist vacuum degassing and drying systems, gas sampling units, and nuclear monitoring equipment. This role involves UK-wide field service work alongside involvement in internal engineering, commissioning, build support, and system testing. The position offers structured travel throughout the year, comprehensive technical training, and the opportunity to develop specialist expertise within regulated engineering environments.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver planned maintenance and reactive breakdown support for specialist vacuum degassing and drying systems, gas sampling units, and nuclear monitoring equipment
  • Diagnose and fault-find across electrical, control & instrumentation (EC&I), mechanical, and vacuum systems
  • Carry out UK-wide field service activities, with approximately six separate weeks of travel per year, scheduled and spread across the calendar
  • Support internal engineering activities, including system commissioning, build support, and factory/system testing
  • Ensure all work is carried out in line with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
  • Produce clear service reports and communicate effectively with customers and internal teams
Qualifications
  • Strong technical foundation with the ability to apply and develop hands‑on engineering skills across varied environments (training provided)
  • Proven electrical, control, and instrumentation knowledge with practical experience
  • Experience working with vacuum or gas systems, including compressors, instrumentation, and pressure monitoring
  • Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving capability
  • Eligibility to achieve SQEP status for nuclear site work (training and mentoring provided)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of high‑vacuum systems
  • Full, clean UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel and work away from home when required
Salary & Benefits
  • Salary: £40,000-£50,000 per annum, dependent on experience
