Field Officer Grade 1-2 – Casual – Gloucester / Scone

Salary

$30.84 to $33.85 per hour depending on experience and skills, casual loading applies.

About the role

National Parks & Wildlife Service invites you to join as a Casual Field Officer Grade 1‑2. You will help protect NSW's natural environment, heritage and Aboriginal country.

You will assist with construction maintenance and improvements to park assets, maintenance of heritage buildings, and undertake pest, weed and fire management activities, including in remote areas. You will operate and maintain plant and equipment, respond to visitor enquiries and may assist with compliance activities. The servicing of camping and day‑use areas may be a large part of the position.

You will contribute to ensuring obligations and aims are met through enhancement and preservation of natural and cultural heritage values of parks, and assist in completion of works programmes to ensure public access to safe recreational facilities.

About you

You have experience and skills in a range of outdoor work and are seeking occasional intermittent casual hands‑on work. You have a passion for community and environment, strong attention to detail, safety and fitness, and can work alone or with minimal supervision. You are available for mid‑week or weekend work at short notice.

Essential requirements
  • Current Australian Class C Driver's licence or equivalent and ability to drive 4WD vehicles.
  • Ability to obtain and use MR Licence where appropriate.
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out duties safely and obtain relevant SafeWork NSW certification; ability to operate and maintain a range of plant and equipment, including conditionally registered vehicles and watercraft (non‑coxswain), lifting apparatus and minor road maintenance plant; willingness to obtain a First Aid certificate.
  • Certification or ability to obtain certification within probationary period (up to 12 months) in operating a chainsaw to crosscut or basic tree felling standard; ability to operate two‑way radio.
  • Ability to carry out frontline firefighting duties and support roles, including obtaining and maintaining certification as a crew member within the probationary period (up to 12 months) and willingness to fly in light aircraft.
  • Fit for a physically active role inclusive of firefighting medical clearance and task‑based fitness assessment to a moderate level within probationary period (up to 12 months) and annually thereafter.
