Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a modern, inclusive team that sits at the heart of public service delivery. This role is with the Office for National Statistics via AMS.

Role

This is a Field Interviewer role. You will carry out official surveys to inform Government about the state of the nation. The role will start with 5 weeks of comprehensive training to ensure your success.

The Field Interviewer will visit sampled addresses to encourage completion of surveys and interview respondents in their homes. This role is not office-based. You will work within a 40-mile radius (approx.) of an allocated location. Work will be allocated to fit within your contracted hours in this area. Consider your home location relative to your chosen location preference to ensure you can meet travel requirements.

This role offers flexible working hours, broadly equivalent to 22 hours per week. Interviews will need to be conducted between 09:00 and 20:00, with potential admin and travel time outside of these hours. Interviewers will work across mornings, afternoons and evenings and are contracted to work Monday to Saturday.

Responsibilities
  • Perform field interviews as part of official surveys and assist respondents in completing surveys where needed.
  • Plan, organise and manage your own workload with provided training and support.
  • Transport and carry equipment (e.g., laptop and survey materials) to addresses; navigate stairs as required.
Requirements
  • Live within a 10-mile radius of the location and be able to travel to addresses within a 40-mile radius of the advertised location.
  • Interviews conducted between 09:00–20:00; hours split across mornings, afternoons, and evenings; Saturday work may be required.
  • Experience using a laptop and a smartphone.
  • Self-disciplined, self-motivated and able to work without supervision; excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Be able to transport and carry equipment and navigate to addresses in the field.
  • Full valid UK Driving Licence (including EU Nationals) and full use of a car for work purposes, including business use.
  • Proof of Identity; broadband internet at home prior to taking up employment.
