Job description

Overview

I am a forty eight year old woman with Bethlem Myopathy (a rare type of Muscular Dystrophy which causes progressive muscle weakness), this has led to me using NIV and a powered wheelchair. I enjoy going out walking my assistance dog, concerts, shopping, cinema, I also like playing games and binge-watching TV series. I have a great team of staff that help me at various times of the day.

Main duties

• Driving my automatic wheelchair accessible vehicle and securing me and my dog in the car.
• Monitoring my breathing while we go out and fix any issues that can arise with my Non-invasive ventilator (NIV).
• Support with personal care.
• Manual handling with another care worker, includes using a slide sheet and hoist for personal care.
• Household chores such as washing up, laundry, vacuuming/mopping, cooking, occasionally light gardening (weeding/planting pots).
• Help care for my assistance dog with grooming, putting harness on and securing in car. Training will be given in all aspects of my care.
• Option to pick up short calls for more hours or to help cover anyone on leave.
• Occasionally you may be asked to work evenings to go out to concerts, cinema etc.

A Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) and two satisfactory references are conditional for the post. This is a free and confidential process.
