Overview

Lady in her 30's who has a functional neurological and non-epileptic attack disorder is looking for a caring, patient, and supportive individual who has a great sense of humour to support her in the afternoons to get her children from school with her and then support her at home with doing household tasks and activities. She has a bubbly and lively personality and values someone who can make light of things and remain unfazed by attacks when they occur.

Employer Disability and Health Conditions: Mobility / Physical, Acquired Brain Injury, Mental Health.

The individual has allergies (Penicillin, seeds, nuts, mustard, and latex) and keeps pets at home (2 German Shepherd dogs).

About the Role

The duties and responsibilities below describe the support needed on a day-to-day basis. Tasks may vary day to day and you may be required to perform other duties as reasonably required.

Responsibilities
  • Support and/or prompt with personal care as needed (toileting, showering/bathing, getting in and out of bed, getting dressed).
  • Support and/or prompt with cooking/meal preparation and eating meals/drinks.
  • Support and/or prompt to take medications.
  • Assist with household chores and general homemaking.
  • Support and/or prompt to attend appointments (e.g., hospital/doctor visits).
  • Support with food shopping.
  • Support to get to and from school/work/college/social activities.
  • Encourage socialisation and participation in activities; promote friendships and independence.
  • Develop a good, trusting one-to-one working relationship.
  • Support with managing paperwork and correspondence.
Requirements / Skills
  • Be honest, reliable, trustworthy and punctual.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect privacy; the role prohibits the use of social media in relation to the job.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Be patient, supportive and caring with good listening skills and non-judgemental emotional support.
  • Be empathetic; previous caring experience is helpful but not essential if there is a genuine interest in supporting people with disability/illness.
  • Ability to work flexibly, adapting to the employer’s needs on a daily basis.
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to get involved; lively personality.
