Role: Family Group Conference And Lifelong Links Coordinator (Durham 5276699)
Pay: £15.56 per hour PAYE
Contract Length: 3 months
This is a 7 day week service, hours 08:00-20:00. There will be some evening and weekend work. This is a county wide service, so candidates will need to be able to travel throughout the working day.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and coordinate Family Group Conferences (FGC) and Lifelong Links (LL), supporting children, young people, and families to develop future-focused, safe, and practical plans.
- Work directly with children, young people, parents, family networks, and professionals to negotiate, agree, and implement FGC and LL plans.
- Provide mediation and restorative interventions to establish or re-establish relationships, promoting safe and stable family networks.
- Deliver emergency and crisis support, including rapid response interventions to prevent children entering care or placement breakdowns.
- Ensure active participation of all relevant parties, respecting the wishes of children and young people and addressing any risks or safeguarding concerns.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with statutory and voluntary agencies, advocating for the needs and rights of children and young people.
- Maintain independence as a coordinator while advising, supporting, and training professionals on the FGC and LL process.
Key Criteria
- Level 3 Health & Social Care qualification (or equivalent).
- Significant recent experience delivering Family Group Conferences and direct work with children, young people, and families.
- Skilled in mediation, restorative practice, and conflict resolution.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies to achieve positive outcomes.
- Strong knowledge of child protection, safeguarding, and relevant legislation (e.g., Children Act 1989, Children’s Rights, UNCRC).
- Understanding of challenges faced by children in care, especially during transitions to adulthood, and commitment to anti-discriminatory practice.
- Up-to-date knowledge of research and best practices in family support, care planning, and lifelong relationship building.
