We are seeking an inspirational, strategic, and experienced Head of Science to lead a large and ambitious department at a successful secondary school located in Staines-upon-Thames, Surrey. This is a pivotal senior leadership role within the Fringe Area pay scale, offering the chance to drive forward outstanding teaching and learning across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

Key Responsibilities & Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be an exceptional teacher and academic leader with a degree in a Science discipline (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics), holding QTS, and possessing a proven track record of successful departmental leadership.

As Head of Science, you will be expected to :
  • Strategic Vision : Develop and implement an ambitious strategy for the Science department, overseeing curriculum design and delivery from KS3 through to A-Level across all three specialisms.
  • Team Leadership : Effectively lead, mentor, and performance‑manage the team of specialist teachers and technicians, fostering a culture of pedagogical excellence, accountability, and continuous professional development.
  • Attainment & Accountability : Use data rigorously to monitor student progress, drive targeted intervention, and ensure outstanding outcomes in all GCSE and A-Level examinations (including Combined Science and separate sciences).
  • Resource & Safety : Manage the departmental budget efficiently, ensuring laboratories are fully resourced, well‑maintained, and strictly comply with CLEAPSS and all safety regulations.
  • Whole‑School Contribution : Serve as a key link to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), promoting STEM engagement across the school and wider community.
