Position: Executive Officer (EO2)

Pay Rate: £15.83 per hour

Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week, 0830-1700 Mon – Thu 0830-1630 Fri

Duration: up to 29th March 2026 (possibility of extension)

Start Date: ASAP

Location: 2a Upper Malone Road, Belfast, BT9 5LA

All Sport NI employees currently work in a hybrid pattern: part of the week office‑based and part from home, reviewed on a regular basis.

Sport NI is the lead development public body for sport and physical recreation in Northern Ireland, established under the Recreation and Youth Service Order 1986 to further sport. As the main statutory body, Sport NI channels public funding for sports through grants from the Department for Communities and the National Lottery.

Job Duties

The Sport Support Officer plays a key role in providing effective administration of resources to enable the smooth running of projects and programmes. The role supports the Deputy Principal and/or the Staff Officer in achieving Sport NI’s strategic objectives, engaging with colleagues, sports organisations and partners, and monitoring performance against agreed strategic targets.

The Sport Development Team

Responsible for developing Sport NI’s coordinated approach to organisational engagement across partner organisations. Actively seeks trends and innovation to widen participation, especially among under‑represented groups.

The Sports, Culture & Integrity Team

Works with sports governing bodies to achieve positive outcomes by adopting governance behaviours aligned with the chosen code.

The Infrastructure Team

Collaborates with partners, advocates for facility investment, and uses funding to deliver inclusive spaces. Research and insights support development of varied activity offerings for all abilities.

The People Development Team

Develops a coordinated approach to people development across all levels of sport, including coaching, officiating, sports administration, and practitioners, supported by the Sport NI Digital Hub.

The Performance Programmes Team

Develops Performance Sport programmes for governing bodies, aligning with investment programmes, Athlete Awards, and managing service level agreements for the Sport Northern Ireland Sports Institute support.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, review, and maintain administration systems and procedures.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date and accurate records and reports for projects.
  • Keep abreast of a broad set of issues related to the team's work.
  • Adhere to relevant governance policies, procedures, regulations, and legislation specific to Sport NI.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders to progress the team’s work.
  • Perform data analysis and reporting, project support, records management, and administrative support (e.g., meeting preparation, agendas, minutes).
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of projects, including managing costs, dependencies, outputs, risks, and timescales.
  • Deliver professional advisory services.
  • Analyse data and other information to produce effective reports and written responses to queries supporting the business area.
  • Prepare financial reports and accurate, timely management information for the functional area.
  • Assist in measuring, monitoring, and reporting progress against targets and KPIs.
  • Develop appropriate acquisition, storage, retrieval, and disposal procedures within the electronic records management strategy.
Corporate Responsibilities
  • Assist in the effective management of resources, ensuring work aligns with Business and Corporate Plan objectives.
  • Carry out any other duties reasonably undertaken for the post’s overall objectives, reflecting Sport NI’s DNA (Values).
Essential Criteria
  • 5 GCSE passes grades A – C, including English Language and Maths or equivalents.
  • 2 A‑Level passes grades A – E, or equivalents.
  • 2 years full‑time (or equivalent part‑time) experience within the last 7 years in administration systems, file management, and working to organisational policies and procedures.
  • 2 years full‑time experience within the last 7 years gathering, analysing, and communicating information effectively to a wide range of audiences.
  • Employment experience in drafting and handling correspondence and enquiries from the public and/or partner organisations.
  • Competent keyboard skills and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Access to insured transport for SNI business travel.
  • Ability to work additional hours, including weekends or short notice.
Desired Experience
  • Experience working within a sporting environment (e.g., club, governing body, local authority).
  • Minimum 1 year full‑time experience in grant administration.
  • Understanding of public‑sector accountability standards.
  • Experience with project management methodologies.
