Job Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join our Estates Department as an Estate Regulatory Compliance Officer Apprentice. This role encompasses a range of responsibilities, providing you with the chance to grow your skills and make a meaningful impact. Assist in monitoring compliance across Estates maintenance activities, ensuring adherence to statutory and safety regulations, including health and safety, fire safety, and environmental standards. Support in carrying out inspections, audits, and risk assessments of plant, equipment, and buildings to identify and mitigate potential risks. Help maintain and update compliance records, reports, and statutory documentation within the Estates management systems. Work collaboratively with the maintenance team and contractors to ensure planned and reactive works comply with legislation, University policy, and industry best practice. Assist in developing compliance checklists, safe systems of work, and method statements to promote a culture of continuous improvement. Support the coordination of remedial works identified through inspections and audits, ensuring timely completion and accurate record‑keeping. Contribute to the preparation and presentation of compliance performance data for management review. Attend internal and external training courses to gain knowledge in compliance, safety management, and property maintenance operations. Maintain personal training logs and evidence portfolios in line with apprenticeship requirements. Adhere at all times to all relevant health and safety policies and safe working practices. Keep all working areas, including store areas, in a clean and safe condition.

Responsibilities
  • Work within legal and regulatory frameworks and the organisation's policies and procedures.
  • Make informed assessments of the risk of a business or individual's non‑compliance.
  • Use outcomes of risk assessment to guide decisions, activities and targeting of resources.
  • Make proportionate and risk‑based intervention choices to ensure compliance is achieved.
  • Collect evidence and data related to non‑compliance using available techniques, for example investigations, audits, inspections.
  • Take actions to deal with non‑compliance using proportionate interventions.
  • Monitor progress made by businesses and individuals against assessed risks.
  • Assess products and services, including any associated internal controls to ensure they meet legal, regulatory and organisational requirements.
  • Use and analyse data, making decisions about the relevance, quality and accuracy to inform evidence‑based and objective risk assessments.
  • Take a systematic approach to data curation and apply data quality controls to ensure the correct use of data‑driven findings.
  • Identify patterns and trends in compliance issues.
  • Promote the importance of compliance and their organisation's role in supporting compliance.
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with stakeholders and tailor their approach to the needs and circumstances of those they interact with.
  • Communicate with stakeholders including businesses, individuals and regulators.
  • Use digital technologies to manage, share and store information and to communicate with others.
  • Follow and apply equity, diversity and inclusion rules and procedures when making evidence‑based decisions and interacting with stakeholders.
  • Use workload management techniques to plan, organise and prioritise own tasks and manage time effectively.
