A historic estate in the UK is seeking an Estate Forester for a hands-on role managing 1750 acres of woodland. Responsibilities include felling trees, planting small plantations, and managing forestry contractors. Candidates should be self-motivated with qualifications in tree health surveys, chainsaw operation, and hold a valid UK driver’s license. Strathmore Estates is the collective name for the historic estates of the Earls of Strathmore & Kinghorne. Located at Glamis, Angus, the estate amounts to 14,500 acres. The estate comprises of a number of enterprises covering a wide variation of industries. Glamis Castle, the jewel in the crown attracts 110,000 people to view the castle and gardens as well as hosting events throughout the year. Our farming business farms 6500 acres of land farming arable crops and a 300 suckler cow herd. Our forestry team maintain the woodland surrounding Glamis village which makes it look so special. The sporting team operates a small rough shoot, a more commercial simulated clay pigeon shoot as well as managing the deer on the estate. Finally, the property team manages the let property on the estate, this comprises of residential property, let farms as well as smaller commercial lets.
We are currently seeking to recruit an Estate Forester to the Estate, this is a hands‑on role within a team of two. The estate woods amount to 1750 acres ranging from continuous cover to small commercial forestry blocks. Estate forestry work is varied and the successful candidate will require a can‑do attitude towards the role.
