Spinwell is recruiting for an Environmental Professional for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROFESSIONAL
  • Manages contractual aspects to ensure environmental requirements are captured and manages contractors who perform environmental activities.
  • Specifies system-specific environmental requirements with consideration for the environmental consequences of the wider system of systems.
  • Works with colleagues at all levels to support compliance with all relevant UK legislation, Defence regulations, client policy, and DE&S policy. Contributes to the development and maintenance of policy and process to satisfy the DE&S corporate standards for Environmental Management.
  • Identifies and analyzes environmental impacts and contributes to the identification and evaluation of risk reduction measures, ensuring these are adequately documented and managed.
  • Supports the development and management of effective Environmental Management Systems, and compliance activities in line with POEMS, on simple subsystems or with supervision on complex systems.
  • Contributes to the development, maintenance, and modification of policy/process to satisfy the DE&S corporate standards for Environmental Management, across a matrix‑managed organisation working alongside stakeholders and multiple Delivery Teams.
  • Participates and scrutinizes the system’s environmental test, verification, validation, and evaluation process.
  • Assists in managing the disposals and decommissioning of basic equipment.
  • Supports environmental assurance activities.
  • Provides informed environmental advice to decision makers through Project Environmental Panels.
  • Owns personal career progression and professionalisation, engaging with a People Coach, maintaining professional membership or registration, updating MyHR Development Plan, and keeping current with modern engineering technologies.
SKILLS / EXPERIENCE OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROFESSIONAL
  • Hold any Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics based qualification at RQF Level 4; and
  • Have experience of providing technical advice and delivery of successful environmental acquisition/support outcomes; and
  • Have technical environmental acquisition/support experience in a variety of contexts; and
  • With a relevant professional body/institution related to your discipline, be professionally registered as either:
    • Registered Environmental Technician (REnvTech) or
    • Registered Science Technician (RSciTech) or
    • Engineering Technician (EngTech)
  • *Alternatively, if professionalisation registration is not held, hold a minimum RQF Level 6 in any Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics based discipline.
  • Determine and then understand how to apply correct technical legislation, regulation, standards, policies and processes during acquisition and support of equipment.
  • Determine and then understand how to apply the most effective and efficient ways to process data, assisting those in lower grades to achieve efficiency.
  • Select suitable communication methods.
  • Resolve potential conflicts between stakeholders.
  • Take appropriate action in reacting and responding to routine issues (such as reporting safety incidents, suggesting efficiency benefits).
  • Conduct in‑depth analysis of products or processes and identify the appropriate action to rectify identified issues.
  • Make timely decisions related to accuracy and efficiency of your own work and others, and establish priorities and work sequencing.
  • Escalate, and manage where possible, risks at the appropriate time to meet all regulatory requirements, including where and when to safely quarantine equipment/products.
  • Plan and manage your own time to meet challenging and ambitious deadlines.
  • Decide and implement the correct action for coaching and supervision required for junior and/or equivalent graded staff you may work with.
  • Identify your own shortfalls in knowledge and discuss appropriate options for self‑development, setting short and medium priorities.
  • Be knowledgeable of where to find the most appropriate internal policy and processes.
