Overview

The Environmental Lead is responsible for ensuring that all activities within the Business Lines are conducted in compliance with environmental legislation, regulatory requirements, and company policies. This role leads the development, implementation, and continual improvement of environmental management systems, promotes sustainability, and safeguards the environment while supporting nuclear safety culture.

Responsibilities
  • Lead compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and nuclear-specific environmental requirements.
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of ISO 14001- certified Environmental Management System.
  • Ensure environmental monitoring programs (e.g., effluents, emissions, waste management) are conducted accurately and reported to regulatory authorities on time.
  • Manage environmental impact assessments, audits, and inspections.
  • Act as primary point of contact with environmental regulators (e.g., Environment Agency, ONR, or local authorities).
  • Prepare and submit environmental reports, ensuring full transparency and accuracy.
  • Support inspections and audits, providing documentation and evidence as required.
  • Promote waste minimization, recycling, and sustainable resource use.
  • Ensure alignment with nuclear site license conditions and waste management plans.
  • Lead the environmental agenda and provide technical guidance to project and operational staff.
  • Develop and deliver environmental training and awareness programs across the workforce.
  • Promote a culture of sustainability and environmental stewardship throughout the organization.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate environmental risks associated with Framatome operations.
  • Lead incident investigations relating to environmental breaches or near-misses.
  • Ensure corrective and preventive actions are effectively implemented and monitored.
Profile

Required Attributes:

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related
  • Professional accreditation (e.g., IEMA, CIWEM, Chartered Environmentalist) desirable
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 and integrated management systems

Desired Attributes:

  • Experience of developing and implementing processes and procedures.
  • Auditor training (internal or external) desirable.
  • Experience in environmental management within the nuclear, energy, or other high-hazard industries

For this role we are offering a salary of circa £45-£50,000 dependent on experience, plus benefits, including, but not limited to:
