Environmental Coordinator

£34,000 - £44,000

West Sussex

Are You an Environmental Professional Who Wants to Make a Real Impact on Live Projects?

If you're driven by doing things the right way, thrive in complex construction environments, and want your environmental expertise to genuinely influence outcomes on site - keep reading.

This role isn't about ticking boxes. It's about owning environmental performance, shaping sustainable construction practices, and being the person others rely on to get it right.

The Opportunity

As an Environmental Coordinator, you'll be at the heart of project delivery – ensuring environmental compliance, protecting natural resources, and embedding best practice across construction activities.

You’ll work closely with site teams, specialists, consultants, and clients to make sure environmental considerations aren't an afterthought – they're built in from day one.

If you enjoy autonomy, responsibility, and variety, this role gives you all three.

What You'll Be Trusted With
Environmental Compliance & Monitoring
  • Ensure projects fully comply with UK environmental legislation, planning conditions, and internal standards
  • Oversee air, water, noise, and biodiversity monitoring programmes
  • Act as the go‑to environmental authority on site
Environmental Management & Permitting
  • Develop, implement, and review CEMPs, Site Waste Management Plans, and permit applications
  • Coordinate licences and consents, including MMO Marine Licences, EA Flood Risk Activity Permits, and Abstraction/Discharge Consents
  • Translate complex consent conditions into practical site actions
Data, Reporting & Auditing
  • Analyse environmental data and produce high‑quality technical reports
  • Maintain accurate records for audits, regulators, and clients
  • Support ISO 14001 audits and continuous improvement initiatives
Collaboration & Coordination
  • Liaise with ecologists, archaeologists, engineers, and architects to integrate environmental requirements seamlessly
  • Coordinate subconsultants and ensure their outputs align with project objectives
  • Provide environmental input into bids, sustainability strategies, and risk assessments
Incident Management & Training
  • Lead investigations into environmental incidents and implement corrective actions
  • Deliver toolbox talks and briefings that actually influence site behaviour
  • Raise awareness and drive a culture of environmental responsibility
Sustainability & Innovation
  • Support biodiversity net gain, carbon reduction, and circular economy initiatives
  • Help turn sustainability ambitions into measurable results on live projects
Is This You?
  • Have 3‑5+ years' experience in an environmental role within construction, civil engineering, or consultancy
  • Understand UK environmental legislation, permitting, and compliance inside out
  • Have hands‑on experience developing and delivering environmental management plans
  • Are confident working with monitoring data, audits, and regulators
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with site teams and stakeholders
  • Take ownership, spot risks early, and enjoy solving problems before they elevate
What You'll Bring
Essential
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or related discipline
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 14001
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365
Desirable
  • Experience with GIS, environmental data logging, or digital reporting tools
  • Familiarity with CDE platforms (e.g. Procore, Aconex)
  • CSCS card or equivalent
  • ISEP/IEMA Practitioner membership (or working towards)
  • SocEnv registration (REnvTech or progressing to CEnv)
Why This Role Is Worth Your Time
  • Your work directly influences environmental outcomes on real projects
  • You’ll be trusted to lead, not just support
  • You’ll gain exposure to complex permitting, sustainability initiatives, and multidisciplinary teams
  • You’ll continue developing professionally in a role with genuine responsibility and visibility
