Overview
As an Environment Apprentice, you will promote Pfizer’s internal environmental programmes and initiatives, gaining knowledge across a wide range of environmental topics and supporting the delivery of our sustainability strategy to achieve Net Zero by 2040. We are looking for a candidate who will help us change behaviours and further improve our culture so that working sustainably becomes second nature.
Responsibilities
- Working within the UK environmental, health and safety management system, in particular with a view to preparing Pfizer for compliance with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
- Assisting the UK environmental, health and safety governance structure, through attendance at Risk Committee meetings, conveying key information and documenting outcomes.
- Participating in the UK Environment and Sustainability Focus Group, with active involvement in delivery of the UK Communication & Engagement strategy.
- Partner with peers to manage Sustainability Teams to support the fostering of ideas to enhance our environmental culture.
- Participating in the GWE Sustainability and Wellbeing - Commercial Facilities Workstream, ensuring progression to Net Zero across GWE.
- Involvement in and development of skills to enable leading of improvement projects in environmental management.
- Providing hands‑on practical advice, guidance and support to the business across a range of topics, such as Pfizer's energy efficiency programmes, waste management, risk assessment, incident investigation.
- Partnering with our Integrated Facilities Management Teams to ensure efficiencies with regards to data reporting and Net Zero progression.
- Maintenance of environmental, health and safety repositories.
- Data enquiry and review, including preparation of performance reports for site leaders and legislators to satisfy legislative requirements and identify trends and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Assistance with environmental, health and safety auditing, inspection and monitoring programmes.
- Compiling promotional communications for topical environmental, health and safety items, for example supporting advance of our environment and sustainability strategy.
- Participating in the Pfizer environmental, health and safety culture programme.
- Involvement in and where appropriate opportunity to lead improvement projects in partnership with the My Green Lab community.
Qualifications
- 5 GCSEs at grades C/4 or above (or equivalent), including Mathematics and English.
- 96 to 120 UCAS tariff points from at least two A-levels or equivalent (Grades A–C).
- BTEC or equivalent science or engineering related qualification (Grade DMM) is essential, or a Pass in an Access to HE Diploma in relevant subjects such as Engineering, Science, Business, or Maths.
- Essential: Basic understanding of environmental policies and standards.

- Good verbal, written and presentation skills.
- Good soft people skills, with an engaging personality.
- Confidence to liaise with Pfizer personnel across different departments and levels of seniority.
- Ability to interpret data using Microsoft Suite of tools to generate creative reports.
- Enthusiastic and energetic approach with an interest in environmental sustainability.
- Demonstrated attitudes, behaviours and interpersonal skills associated with a professional workplace.
Additional Requirements
The apprentice must be willing to commit personal time to study and review travel options to be able to commute to the workplace.
