Job Overview

This is a senior leadership position within HEIW's Digital and Data directorate. You'll be responsible for shaping and governing HEIW's enterprise-wide technical architecture, with a particular focus on Microsoft technologies (Power Platform, Dataverse, .NET, Azure, and the wider Microsoft ecosystem) in an Agile Scrum environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for software engineering and platform architecture.
  • Oversee the design and delivery of robust, scalable, and future-proof systems.
  • Ensure digital solutions meet NHS Wales national standards for safety, interoperability, and security.
  • Lead and mentor high-performing development teams, embedding best practice and modern engineering principles.
  • Act as a system leader across NHS Wales, influencing digital policy, standards, and architecture nationally.
  • Build strong partnerships with government.
Qualifications
  • Significant senior-level experience in software engineering, enterprise architecture, or platform development.
  • Proven expertise in Microsoft technologies, including Power Platform, Dataverse, .NET, and Azure cloud infrastructure and their application at scale.
  • A strong track record of leading large-scale digital transformation and modernisation initiatives using these technologies.
  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
  • The ability to balance technical innovation with sustainability, clinical safety, and value.

In 2024 we embarked on an ambitious, multiyear business transformation project to combine multiple digital systems into a single digital and data platform., Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) is the strategic workforce body for NHS Wales with statutory functions that include education and training, workforce planning, workforce development and transformation, leadership and succession planning, and careers.
