Job summary

What Makes This Role Great

In this role, you aren’t just testing software; you are ensuring the engineering integrity for a market-leading structural design calculation library. As a Quality Assurance and Quality Control Structural Engineer, your primary responsibility is to leverage your structural design expertise to rigorously test, validate, and ensure the engineering accuracy of all new and enhanced calculations within the Tedds Engineering Library. You will serve as the gatekeeper for quality, playing a key role in the successful release of high-quality features while also contributing to the advancement of team testing procedures and automation efforts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Primary Testing and Validation: Serve as the primary structural engineering resource responsible for rigorous QA/QC of new and enhanced calculations added to the Tedds Engineering Library.
  • Design Code Verification: Thoroughly research and verify structural design code requirements (e.g., Eurocodes, ACI, AISC, etc.) and perform detailed hand calculations to validate the accuracy of Tedds calculation results against expected code compliance.
  • Test Case Development & Execution: Design, execute, and maintain a comprehensive suite of structured QA/QC test plans and test cases specifically for new and updated library calculations to ensure functionality and robustness.
  • Defect Management: Identify, reproduce, document, and track calculation defects and software errors, working closely with the development team for resolution.
  • Procedure Ownership & Automation: Contribute to the definition, documentation, and continuous improvement of the team's QA/QC processes, including supporting the adoption of test automation and scalability efforts.
  • Maintenance: Potential to perform small maintenance and updates on existing Tedds calculations as required to address minor issues.
  • Documentation: Assist in reviewing and validating technical documentation and help content for structural calculations to ensure clarity and correctness for end-users.
  • Collaboration: Work within an Agile/Scrum team, collaborating with software engineers and other structural engineers to understand requirements and delivery goals.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Educational Foundation: A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Industry Expertise: At least 3 years of proven practical structural design experience, ideally within a consultancy environment. Ability to perform structural designs with little or no support.
  • Technical Depth: Deep knowledge of structural design principles and the ability to interpret and apply international design codes.
  • Meticulous Eye for Detail: Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills with a commitment to precision.
  • Communication: Fluent English language skills with the ability to articulate complex technical issues.
Bonus Points For
  • Automation Mindset: Experience or a strong interest in test automation and scripting to improve software scalability.
  • Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with Tekla Tedds or similar structural analysis and design software packages. Experience with software testing or quality assurance in an engineering or technical domain.
  • Agile Experience: Working knowledge of Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
