Overview

Engineering Tutor (Mechanical Bias) – Location: Portslade, Brighton (with travel across Sussex and Surrey). Salary: £35,000 - £39,000 + benefits.

The Role

As an Engineering Tutor (Mechanical Bias), you will:

  • Deliver engaging teaching and assessment up to Level 4 in mechanical engineering and related programmes.
  • Develop schemes of work, lesson plans, teaching resources, and assessment plans tailored to learners' needs.
  • Provide mentoring, pastoral support, and personal tutoring to apprentices.
  • Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusivity in teaching and learning.
  • Maintain accurate learner records, progress tracking, and attendance monitoring.
  • Contribute to internal quality assurance processes, moderation, and compliance with awarding bodies.
  • Support the maintenance of training facilities and equipment to ensure a safe and effective learning environment.
  • Participate in staff training, standardisation, and continuous professional development activities.
The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for someone with:

  • A strong background in the engineering sector, ideally with teaching or training experience.
  • A Level 4 or higher qualification in engineering (Level 5 or above desirable).
  • A recognised teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
  • Assessor/IQA qualifications (or willingness to obtain).
  • Up-to-date knowledge of curriculum requirements, assessment methods, and awarding body standards (EAL, City & Guilds, Pearson).
  • Experience teaching core engineering subjects such as Mechanical Principles, Mathematics for Engineering Technicians, Engineering Drawing, and Maintenance of Mechanical Systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, organisation, and the ability to engage and motivate learners.
