Our client is based in Sheffield, and this is a new and very exciting opportunity.
To lead and manage all aspects of the maintenance, refurbishment, and repair operations for train lifting equipment, ensuring all machinery is safe, compliant with relevant regulations (e.g., LOLER, PUWER), and operating efficiently to minimise downtime and support rail operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership and Management: Supervise, train, and mentor a team of service engineers and technicians, assisting with service related queries.
- Engineering Operations: Technical management of site related orders and enquiries. This can include spares, supply and fit, refurbishments and reactive repairs.
- Health & Safety and Compliance: Ensure all operations strictly adhere to health and safety policies, industry standards, and legal regulations.
- Quality Control and Inspection: Conduct regular inspections and thorough examinations of equipment to diagnose faults, assess condition, and ensure all repairs and refurbishments meet manufacturer specifications and quality standards.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed service records, maintenance logs, test certificates, and prepare reports on budgets, progress, and performance indicators (KPIs) for senior management.
- Inventory and Budget Management: Oversee equipment stock, forecast demands for spare parts, manage procurement, and control the departmental budget and expenses.
- Customer and Vendor Relations: Liaise with internal departments and external contractors/suppliers and customers to ensure high satisfaction.
- Continuous Improvement: Develop and implement strategies to improve efficiency, productivity, and safety procedures, fostering a proactive maintenance culture.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Essential:
- Experience: Proven experience in a maintenance management or supervisory role within the lift industry or a similar heavy lifting/engineering environment, preferably related to rail or heavy machinery.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge of lifting equipment, including the ability to interpret technical drawings/manuals and electrical diagrams.
- Design knosledge
- Qualifications: A minimum of a Mechanical Engineering Degree, or equivalent.
- Core Skills: Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills.
- IT Literacy: Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite.
Desirable:
- Education: A degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline
- Certifications: IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent health and safety certification.
- Specific Experience: Experience with train lifting jacks or other specialised rail depot equipment.
