About the Role
You’ll provide hands-on technical support across the development, prototyping, testing, and maintenance stages of electronic products. This role involves assembly, repair, modification, and testing of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), electronic prototypes, and test systems, as well as supporting product development, field testing, and hardware/software integration efforts.
What You’ll Be Doing
- PCBA Rework & Repair: Perform general PCBA rework, including component replacement, soldering/desoldering (SMD and through-hole), and fault diagnosis.
- Obsolescence Support: Assist in identifying and implementing component substitutions or design adaptations due to part obsolescence.
- PCBA Assembly: Carry out small-scale manual PCBA assembly for prototypes and low-volume runs.
- Prototype Box Builds: Assemble and wire electronic enclosures and prototype builds, ensuring functionality and build quality.
- Cable Looms: Build and repair cable looms and custom wiring harnesses as required.
- Test Fixtures: Assemble, maintain, and repair production test fixtures used in hardware validation and manufacturing.
- Demo and Mini Projects: Support the build, setup, and wiring of demonstration units or small engineering projects.
- Hardware Testing: Execute basic product testing and hardware verification including environmental tests (e.g. waterproofing, vibration, drop tests) and GPS performance tests.
- Field Trial Support: Assist the Production and Product Assurance (PA) teams with product installation, testing, and field trials.
- Prototype Software Support: Work with software engineers to prepare hardware for development, including JTAG fitting, prototype rework, and troubleshooting.
- Inventory & Asset Management: Maintain accurate inventory records of hardware assets, development tools, and test equipment.
- Workshop & Storage Maintenance: Keep the development/storage area clean, organized, and safely arranged.
- EMC Pre-Compliance Testing: Conduct and support in-house EMC pre-compliance testing.
- General Technical Support: Provide day-to-day electronics technician support across the team as required.
What You’ll Bring
- Proven experience in electronics assembly, rework, and prototyping.
- Skilled in soldering (SMD and through-hole) and PCB repair.
- Hands-on experience with test and measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators).
- Basic knowledge of electronic components, schematics, and datasheets.
- Ability to build and interpret wiring diagrams and cable looms.
- Strong attention to detail and quality of work.
- Familiarity with basic environmental and compliance testing procedures.
- Good organizational and documentation skills.
