Job summary

A technology company in Glasgow is seeking a Principal Hardware Engineer to join their R&D team. You'll design and improve electronic systems for advanced imaging products, providing technical leadership and mentoring colleagues. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Electronic Engineering and over 7 years of experience in electronics design, including analogue and mixed-signal design. Qualifications

Role: Principal Hardware Engineer

Type: Permanent

We are looking for a Principal Hardware Engineer to join an innovative R&D team focused on the development of advanced imaging products. This role will involve designing and improving electronic systems and modules, guiding technical decisions, and supporting a multi-disciplinary team through all stages of product development.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement novel analogue, digital, and mixed-signal electronic solutions for new product initiatives and improvements to existing product lines.
  • Provide technical leadership on design specifications, performance, and overall efficacy of electronic systems.
  • Oversee outsourced design activities to ensure project timelines and quality standards are met.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive design documentation, conduct design reviews, and perform risk assessments (FMEA).
  • Mentor and support engineering colleagues on design, testing, and best practices.
  • Contribute to the planning of product and technology roadmaps, identifying opportunities for performance enhancement and cost optimisation.
  • Communicate design concepts clearly to cross-functional teams and provide guidance on operational integration.
  • Offer proactive technical support to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant industry standards and medical device design requirements.
Required qualifications & experience
  • Degree in Electronic Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in electronics design engineering.
  • Strong skills in analogue, digital, and mixed-signal electronics design, including prototyping, modelling, and analysis.
  • Knowledge of electronics manufacturing, assembly, and testing processes.
  • Experience in DFx (Design for Manufacturing, Assembly, Test) and EMC troubleshooting.
