Job summary

A connectivity technology company in Oxford is seeking an electrical/mechanical technician to support the production of laser communications technology. Responsibilities include building high-precision optical systems, managing inventory, and ensuring lab equipment is maintained. The ideal candidate is experienced in electro-mechanical assembly and is proactive in solving problems. Opportunity for hybrid work and some travel may be required.

We’re looking for an electrical/mechanical technician to join our experienced engineering team and deliver transformative laser communications technology. You will support the production and build of our optical communications technology. In this role, you will work closely with our Senior Mechanical Engineer and engineering team.

Responsibilities
  • Build of electrical and electronic systems
  • Mechanical drawings and build of systems
    • You will support the physical build of high-precision optical equipment.
    • 3D printing parts, ordering and accepting outsourced components.
  • Inventory management and configuration control
    • You will own inventory management.
    • You will implement a configuration control system to track components.
  • Lab Management
    • You will help the team keep the lab and equipment in good working condition.
    • You will contribute to health and safety processes.
    • You will lead improvement projects like implementing a formal goods in procedure.
    • Collaboration with engineering team to improve processes and resolve technical challenges.
Requirements
  • A proactive, detail-oriented approach with the ability to work independently and problem-solve.
  • Strong electro-mechanical assembly experience, including soldering, wiring, and mechanical build.
  • Willingness to work hands on in a lab environment.
Desirable additional skills
  • Experience completing apprenticeship programme.
  • Experience working with CAD tools like SolidWorks, RapidHarness.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic PCB layout
  • Experience working with optics
Location

Our office is based in Osney Mead, Oxford. There will be opportunity to work from home as agreed with your line manager. This role may include business travel as required.
