Job summary

A growing equipment manufacturer in East Devon seeks an Electrical Design Engineer skilled in PLC programming to support their expansion efforts. This new role offers the opportunity to work mostly on-site with some hybrid flexibility. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering compliant machinery, managing documentation, and acting as a technical authority. A level 3 engineering qualification is required, along with experience in commissioning automated systems and fault-finding.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a level 3 engineering qualification in electrical or controls.
  • Experience with commissioning and testing of automated machinery.
  • Proven skills in PLC programming, preferably with Beckhoff TwinCAT.

  • Deliver machines to service team in a fully tested and compliant state.
  • Manage documentation accuracy including commissioning guides.
  • Act as technical authority for commissioning and control systems.

Overview

Are you an Electrical Design Engineer with PLC Programming experience? Are you looking for a new challenge? After a recent acquisition we are looking for an electrical design engineer and PLC programming for this Equipment Manufacturer, whos manufacturing facility is based in Great Yarmouth.

The new owners are providing significant investment into the business, this is new role created by the company to support growth. Already leading brand in the industry, and a great reputation coupled with this investment sees the business set to soar in 2026.

Role details

Your role will be predominantly site based with occasional travel to clients site 1-2 times a year. You will have full autonomy working with the programming and production team to make process and design improvements.

  • Basic salary £50,000 - £60000
  • 8:30-5:00 Monday Thursday 8:30-3:30 Friday

Role responsibilities
  • Deliver machines to service team in a fully tested, documented, and compliant state.
  • Ensure documentation accuracy and ownership, including commissioning guides, compliance documents, and test standards.
  • Act astechnical authority for commissioning and control systems.
  • Manage supplier relationships relating to control system components, obsolescence, and returns.
  • Provide occasional on-site support when customer or service requirements cannot be resolved remotely.
  • Maintain awareness of the financial and operational impact of engineering decisions.
  • Continuously develop expertise in control system safety and compliance standards.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Engineering Qualification Electrical or controls Minimum of a level 3
  • Commissioning and testing of automated machinery.
  • PLC programming (Beckhoff TwinCAT preferred).
  • Electrical CAD and BoM management.
  • Fault finding and troubleshooting in electrical and pneumatic circuits.
  • Documentation creation (FAT/SAT, compliance, commissioning standards).
