Job summary

A leading educational organization in Leeds seeks a learning support Advisor/Mentor to assist learners with additional needs. This part-time role (15.5 hours a week) involves providing tailored support to individuals in a Military Academy, ensuring effective learning experiences and modifications. Role Information

We are looking for an experienced learning support Advisor/Mentor who can support learners with additional learning needs. This is a unique role for 3 days a week working within a Military Academy. Knowledge and experience of working with young people with Special Educational Needs and/or Disability (SEND) is essential. Please note that this is on a 44‑week term basis with closures as follows:

  • October Half Term – 1 week
  • December Half Term – 2 weeks
  • February Half Term – 1 week
  • April Half Term – 1 week
  • May Half Term – 1 week

This is a temporary contract running till March 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Provide structured support using a range of effective interventions (as per their EHCP Plan) within a class and/or outdoor setting
  • To aid access to the full range of learning experiences and provide modified materials as required e.g. worksheets, games, visual prompt cards etc.
  • Provide positive reinforcements, praise, and emotional support to learners
  • Advise and support tutors with making necessary adjustments for learners with learning support needs
  • Ensure Learning Support Plans and contact logs are updated accurately and timely
  • Work as part of the team to ensure that the well‑being and personal development of the learner enhance their learning opportunities and life skills
  • Agree on learning support aims and interventions with the learner and set these out in the Learning Support Plan
  • Provide regular feedback to the SENCO and, where necessary, relevant outside agencies about any pupil’s difficulties and progress
  • Contribute to the learner’s annual review by writing a brief report and attending the meeting
  • Foster links with external agencies and carers
  • Facilitate inclusion in small group activities with learners and support interaction between them
  • Attend in‑service training and relevant meetings relevant to the post in order to keep up to date with developments
  • Carry out tasks and responsibilities under the direction of the SENCO
  • Conduct your role in line with the company values and expected behaviours
Qualifications and Conduct

  • Provide learners, customers and colleagues with support, advice and guidance as part of your everyday role
  • Meet the following requirements:
    1. Must have a minimum of 2 years experience working with Post 16 Learners
    2. Knowledge and experience of working with Post 16 learners with Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP)
    3. GCSE, ‘O’ Level or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English
    4. NVQ 3 or equivalent as recognised by the National Occupational Standards for Supporting Teaching and Learning
    5. Knowledge and understanding of the different social, cultural and physical needs of learners
    6. Have training in aspects of SEN, i.e. ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism, SEMH etc.
    7. Calm and patient attitude
