Overview

Service Care Legal are currently seeking an experienced Education Lawyer to join a local authority, working within Children’s Services. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified legal professional with a strong background in education law to take on a varied and impactful role.

Location

Worthing, West Sussex — 1 day per month in the office

Rate

£400 per day LTD, £352 per day PAYE inc. holiday pay, £314 per day PAYE exc. holiday pay

Contract

3 months with possibility of extension

Key Responsibilities
  • You will provide clear, balanced, and practical legal advice to the Learning Directorate and schools across the county. You will manage a diverse caseload independently, ensuring fair and legally compliant decision-making across a range of education matters.
  • Providing specialist legal advice to schools, academies, and Children’s Services on a wide range of education-related issues.
  • Managing a mixed caseload, including: Special Educational Needs & Disability (SEND) Tribunals; School admission and exclusion appeals (including clerking duties); Data protection and freedom of information matters within schools; Assessing client needs and delivering advice that directly impacts the wellbeing of children and families.
  • Assisting with the design and delivery of training across relevant subject areas.
Requirements
  • Qualified Lawyer with a current practising certificate (CILEx or SRA).
  • Strong knowledge and experience of education law, ideally within a local authority or public sector setting.
  • Demonstrable ability to manage a varied caseload with minimal supervision.
  • Specific experience in SEND Tribunals, admissions/exclusions, and information governance within education.
