Salary: £77,000 Basic + Excellent Benefits

Our client, a global STM Publisher, requires a new Editor-in-Chief for a leading journal. You will hold overall editorial responsibility for the journal and play a pivotal role in developing and executing its editorial strategy.

You will lead the editorial team, commission and manage content, ensure the scientific accuracy and independence of all articles, and uphold the highest standards of editorial integrity and relevance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the editorial strategy in collaboration with the Editorial Board, ensuring alignment with the journal’s mission and values.
  • Maintain and enhance the journal’s position as a trusted, independent source of information, free from commercial bias.
  • Lead and inspire the editorial team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
  • Stay abreast of developments in medicines, therapeutics, clinical practice, and publishing trends to ensure the journal remains current and influential.
  • Represent the journal externally at conferences, meetings, and with key stakeholders to promote visibility and impact.
Skills & Experience
  • A clinical background with a deep understanding of pharmacology, therapeutics, and clinical practice.
  • Experience in medical or scientific editing, ideally in an editorial leadership role within a peer-reviewed publication.
  • Demonstrable expertise in critical appraisal of medical literature and evidence-based medicine.
  • A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (desirable).
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific information clearly and concisely.
  • Proven ability to manage editorial processes, workflows, and production schedules.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with experience developing editorial staff.
  • Commitment to scientific integrity, objectivity, and editorial independence.
  • Familiarity with publishing ethics and guidelines (e.g. ICMJE, COPE).
  • Excellent organisational, project management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with editorial management systems, publishing software, and digital publishing platforms.
