Job summary

A leading engineering recruitment company in Northwich is seeking an Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Maintenance Technician. The role involves maintenance and testing of plant equipment to ensure reliable operations of gas-storage facilities while adhering to safety protocols. The ideal candidate has a time-served apprenticeship and at least five years of experience in processing or related environments. Qualifications

  • Experience with handling safety protocols in industrial environments.
  • Willingness to commit to an on-call rota for 24/7 operations.

  • Prepare and implement electrical/C&I isolations for maintenance.
  • Oversee specialist contractors and coordinate safe maintenance work.

Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Maintenance Technician

Location: Northwich, Cheshire, UK

Salary: £46,700 – £54,800 (basic) with on‑call allowance (1 in 3) £7k/year and extended working hours allowance (1 in 6) £3.5k/year, totalling up to £65,300 per annum.

Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday 7:15 am – 4:15 pm with some flexibility.

Contract: Permanent, Site Based

Responsibilities
  • Maintain, test and inspect plant equipment and control & instrumentation (C&I) systems to ensure safe and reliable operation of gas‑storage facilities.
  • Prepare and implement electrical/C&I isolations when maintenance or repairs are needed.
  • Oversee specialist contractors when required, coordinating maintenance work safely and efficiently.
  • Respond as part of the Emergency Response Team during site incidents.
  • Investigate operational issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Work with scheduling team to plan maintenance activities, optimising downtime and resource use.
  • Help train new staff and share operational knowledge to support team growth.
Requirements
  • Recognised time‑served apprenticeship in Electrical or Control & Instrumentation.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience maintaining processing or gas/chemical/COMAH‑type plants or similar industrial environments.
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Strong knowledge of C&I systems and safety protocols.
  • Experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS), preferably ABB 800xA.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Willingness to commit to on‑call rota (site‑based, 24/7 operations).
  • Preferably living within 30 minutes of Northwich given on‑call requirements.
