Overview

Talent STEM are supporting a leading high-hazard industrial manufacturer in North West England who are seeking an Electrical, Control and Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer to join their engineering team. This permanent position offers the opportunity to work in a COMAH-regulated facility, ensuring the safe and reliable operation of critical plant systems.

About the role

The EC&I Engineer will provide specialist support for electrical, control, and instrumentation systems across the site, covering design, maintenance, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Acting as a technical authority for EC&I matters.
  • Leading and supporting projects from concept through to commissioning.
  • Ensuring compliance with COMAH, ATEX, DSEAR, and functional safety regulations.
  • Supporting troubleshooting, maintenance strategies, and reliability improvements.
  • Managing contractors and liaising with stakeholders.
  • Driving continuous improvement across safety and performance standards.
Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineering (or related discipline).
  • 5 10 years EC&I experience within chemical, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of PLCs, DCS, instrumentation, and functional safety (IEC 61508/61511).
  • Familiarity with electrical distribution systems and BS 7671.
  • Experience of COMAH, ATEX, DSEAR, HAZOP/LOPA, and SIL assessments.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Candidates must have the right to work in the UK.
