Job description
Job Title: Teaching Assistant – Level 1 (Pre‑School)

Actual Annual Salary: £9,605 – £10,469. Full Time Equivalent Salary: £25,941 – £28,275 (CLF Grade B).

Contract Type: Fixed term until 31/08/2026. Hours: 16 hours per week – Part Time, Term Time Only plus Inset days. Working Pattern: Wednesday 12:30–3:30pm, Thursday 8:30am–3:30pm and Friday 8:30am–3:30pm. Potential Start Date: February/March 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver planned learning activities and support early personal, social, and emotional development.
  • Use appropriate strategies to help young learners access the Early Years curriculum and develop communication skills.
  • Create a warm, safe, stimulating environment where every child feels valued and ready to explore.
  • Support measurable progress in early language, social interaction, early numeracy, self‑regulation, and school‑readiness skills.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, colleagues, and parents/carers; support positive behaviour and safeguarding.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to shape consistent routines, assess progress, adapt activities, and ensure individual support.
Qualifications & requirements
  • Hold an Early Years Level 2 qualification. For a self‑applicant, relevant NVQ Level 2/3 in supporting teaching and learning or equivalent.
  • First aid qualification.
  • Experience or willingness to work in a single form entry school.
  • Understanding of classroom roles and responsibilities.
  • Ability to engage students and manage behaviour on a one‑to‑one or small group basis.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, empathy and active listening; good planning and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
