Reports to: Early Years Apprenticeship Manager
Location: Cornwall (Face to face delivery: must be based locally)
Pay rate: £24 per hour
Job Purpose
To assess and provide training (as appropriate) to meet CMN and National standards, enabling work based and apprenticeship learners to develop the knowledge skills and understanding to achieve vocational qualifications, supporting the company’s high success rates. You will be responsible for an agreed case load of candidates and work with CMN to provide occupational training and assessment. This will take place in a variety of work environments including on-site assessments, in the workplace or other training venues.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Be responsible for managing a caseload of apprentices across Early Years Standards, and other apprenticeship pathways as required by the Early Years Apprenticeship Manager, and be the first point of contact with the apprentice and their employer Including:
- Planning assessment visits with employers and candidates, from enrolment to completion, setting clear milestones
- Ensuring resources are in place to enable learning to take place and recording of progress is arranged and allocated.
- Responsibility for the timely and effective assessment of candidate/s in the workplace, ensuring necessary planning and feedback is negotiated and recorded, to meet awarding body standards workplace assessment and training is carried out
- Learner records, information and data is kept up to date and relevant and shared appropriately with the Training Development and Support Officer
- Keep a safe learning environment is maintained by supporting apprentices in understanding how to keep themselves, and others, safe and notifying management of any risks.
- Deliver IAG to support each learners’ decision making and progression ambitions through careers guidance, signposting to the relevant organisations and agencies.
- Support the enrolment of learners and apprentices when starting their training to confirm appropriate apprenticeship standard has been selected, making sure all documentation is shared with the Early Years Apprenticeship Manager and Training Development and Support Officer.
- Take responsibility for the progress and achievement of all learners within your caseload ensuring timely completions are achieved and are in line with CMN’s quality improvement plans.
- To plan with the candidate/s targets and action plans to ensure sufficient progress through their qualifications.
- To provide guidance which enables candidates in their portfolio building, keeping them updated on any changes in e-portfolio requirements.
- To assist the candidate in mapping evidence for the competency and knowledge components, ensuring advice on validity and authenticity.
- To be responsible for monitoring and completing accurate documentation on the candidate/s progress through VQManager and individual action/assessment planning.
- Make sure effective assessment of learners is maintained, and that feedback is provided, so that the learning meets individual need, supports improvement and enables the learner to achieve their goals and raise aspirations.
- To support timely achievement of candidates, as well as discussing progression opportunities
- To carry out a review for each candidate in line with CMN procedures and ensure completed units are signed off and submitted for internal verification on a regular basis.
- Understand what activities will contribute to the 20% off-the-job training (where relevant) and how this will be tracked and monitored.
- Ensure that the learner’s individual training plan and content prepares them effectively for EPA.
- Identify any additional learner needs at the earliest opportunity and put a support programme in place; collecting appropriate evidence of support provided.
- Provide guidance for employers relating to EPA
- Attend caseload reviews with the Early Years Apprenticeship Manager and CMN standardisation meetings as required, providing learner information and progress briefings as requested. Report back, to the relevant Manager, any problems related to the candidates’ work placements and documentation. Attend regular assessor/internal verification meetings and other team meetings to discuss candidates’ performance and progress, the national standards and issues of implementation.
- Ensure Early Years Apprenticeships standards and qualifications are delivered, monitored and assessed in the employer’s work place to the required standard, meeting awarding organisation and Ofsted requirements
- Relentlessly strive for continuous improvement in quality and provide excellent customer service to CMN members, learners, internal and external customers.
- Utilise a wide range of teaching and learning tools to create and plan interesting and engaging learning opportunities.
- Work with the Internal and External Verifier to ensure candidate portfolios satisfy awarding body criteria and work exceeds expectations, where possible. Contribute to, and support, IV and awarding organisation standardisation visits and meetings for relevant qualifications
- Maintain occupational competency by being in practice and update your own knowledge and skills (CPD) in line with CMN requirements.
- Review, keep up to date and adhere to CMN’s policies and procedures relating to quality and compliance.

- Maintaining professional standards in relationships, including non-discriminatory practices, and maintaining a high level of confidentiality and discretion.
- Ability to inspire and engage learners to achieve their full potential and a passion for teaching and learning.
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills with the ability to self-motivate; in particular, have excellent time management skills and have an ability to work towards challenging targets.
- To work at all times in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and to follow all company procedures and guidelines which assist this.
- Information security and governance – manage information in line with CMN’s policies, procedures and guidance on subjects such as Data Protection, Freedom of Information, confidentiality, information security and sharing, the information lifecycle and data quality, to ensure compliance and efficient and effective information governance
- Safeguarding and Prevent- maintain awareness of CMN’s policies and practices regarding the safeguarding of children, young people and adults who may be at risk. Report concerns/ allegations in accordance with corporate guidance and procedures
- Equality & Diversity and the Prevent agenda – work to eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and report incidents as they occur. Treat everyone with dignity and respect and ensure individual’s needs are met. Challenge inappropriate behaviour and language constructively, advising on alternatives so the opportunity for change can be considered
- Excellent inter-personal skills with the ability to relate to people at different levels of an organisation and excellent Customer Service skills.
- Team player with an ability to work on tight deadlines as part of a close-knit team.
- Ability to support quality improvement initiatives
- To represent the company at meetings, events and discussions with businesses and organisations across the UK and Europe, acting as an Ambassador for Cornwall Marine Network, whilst projecting the company ethos and business culture.
- Undertaking any other reasonable tasks relevant to the post
