Design & Technology (DT) Technician - Secondary School Brent ASAP Start

Are you an experienced Design & Technology Technician looking for a new and rewarding opportunity in a forward-thinking secondary school? Do you have the technical expertise, organisational skills, and passion to support the delivery of high-quality DT education to students?

Tradewind Recruitment is working with a well-regarded and inclusive secondary school in Brent that is seeking a dedicated Design & Technology Technician to join their DT department from September 2025. This is a full-time, long-term role working Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm, ideal for someone with hands-on technical skills and a commitment to supporting teaching and learning in the DT environment.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare, set up, and maintain materials, tools, and equipment for practical lessons across all areas of DT (e.g. resistant materials, electronics, graphics, and product design).
  • Support teaching staff during lessons, including demonstrating techniques and ensuring health and safety procedures are followed.
  • Maintain and manage tools, machinery, and stock levels, ensuring a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Assist with the design and creation of teaching resources and displays.
  • Ensure all equipment is serviced and meets relevant safety standards and regulations.
  • Support students during practical work, offering guidance where appropriate under the direction of the teacher.
What We're Looking For
  • Previous experience as a DT Technician, a similar workshop-based role (e.g. engineering, carpentry, fabrication) or a design degree (e.g. engineering, architecture etc).
  • Strong knowledge of tools, materials, and equipment used in secondary DT classrooms.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations, including COSHH and risk assessments.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • A proactive and flexible approach, with a willingness to learn and adapt.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
