Job summary

A successful security company is looking for a Design Engineer to help shape and develop electrical and security design systems. You will be responsible for site surveys, producing design packages, and ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards. Overview

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a successful security company who specialise in Security / Access Control Systems to some of the UK's largest Utility companies across the UK, to join as an ambitious Design Engineer and help to develop the business during an exciting phase of growth.

Objectives
  • Carry out Site Surveys on Electrical Transmission & Gas Transmission Sites (UK mainland).
  • Produce Detailed Electrical Designs & Detailed Security Designs (LV & ELV) in line with Legislation, Customer Specification, Technical Standards, Quality & Environmental Standards.
  • Follow own (and others) Designs through to 3rd Party approval/appraisal, construction, commissioning and project completion/handover (Cradle to Grave).
Accountable To / Accountable For
  • ACCOUNTABLE TO: Senior Design Engineer.
  • ACCOUNTABLE FOR: Electrical & Security System Designs (LV & ELV).
Responsibilities
  • Carry out Site Surveys (using client site specific specifications).
  • Producing RFI's and TQ's.
  • Producing Concept Design Packages (for internal review).
  • Producing Detailed Design Packages (for external review).
  • Ensuring that company management systems and processes are adhered to.
  • Be proactively involved in supporting the Design Team and Construction Team throughout the duration of the project.
  • Attend and input at HAZID/HAZCON/Design Assurance & Review Meetings.
  • Promote good practice of Hazard removal or mitigation during the Design Phase.
  • Manage Design Change Control, identify project risks and devise contingency plans.
  • Develop best practices and tools for design execution management.
  • Proactive communication with the Design Team & Project Management Team.
  • Proactive communication with the P6 Planners.
  • Be able to switch from one project to another should the priority change.
  • Mentor and develop new and existing engineers within their roles.
Mandatory Experience
  • Amtech Electrical Design Software (or ElectricalOM).
  • 2D Drawings (General Arrangement/Site Layout/Kiosks/Rooms/Building's etc).
  • 3D Building Information Modelling (BIM) or willing to learn Revit.
  • Designing Low Voltage and Extra Low Voltage AC Systems.
  • Designing AC UPS Systems.
  • Designing DC Systems.
  • Designing Security Systems (Door Access, CCTV, Power Fence etc).
  • Produce Block Diagrams, Single Line Diagrams, Wiring Schematics.
  • Produce Cable Schedules, Load Schedule, Material Schedules and Equipment Schedules.
Ideally Have
  • REVIT BIM Experience.
  • Hazardous Area Design Experience (ATEX & IECEx Standards/Ex12).
  • DSEAR Experience.
  • Previous Security Design Experience for UK Transmission (GT or ET).
  • Previous EC&I/Security Installation Experience (hands on).
Qualifications
  • 18 Edition Wiring Regulations (2382).
  • Level 4 Design and Verification of Electrical Installations (2396).
  • Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering (Ideally BEng in Electrical Engineering).
  • Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer (or working towards).
  • National Grid Person - Substation
  • EUSR - SHEA Gas
Qualities Required

  • Must have good communication skills in both verbal and the use of written English language.
  • Must be computer literate in IT skills.
