Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual for the pivotal role as Deputy Ward Manager at our values‑driven Trust. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of mental health services while developing a career in a supportive and innovative environment committed to inclusion, equity and being actively anti‑racist.

Role Summary

The Deputy Ward Manager will work on an innovative Short‑Stay mixed‑gender Psychiatric Ward operating on a maximum 28‑day admission framework. The model integrates evidence‑based approaches, including robust gate‑keeping processes, intensive multidisciplinary team (MDT) working, the Red‑to‑Green discharge facilitation approach, and strong integration with Home Treatment Teams (HTT) for admission prevention and early supported discharge.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver, or advise on the delivery of, high‑quality safe nursing care, ensuring consistently high standards of practice and clinical excellence in compliance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of professional conduct.
  • Promote and develop clinical leadership and practice, serving as a positive role model to junior members through evidence‑based care.
  • Support professional development through clinical appraisal, supervision and contribution to the ongoing educational programme for staff, fostering a positive learning environment.
  • Encourage and foster collaborative and cross‑organisational working within and beyond the South London Mental Health and Community Partnership.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (RN) who has successfully completed preceptorship.

  • Experience in mental health settings (clinical or non‑clinical) is desirable.
