Overview
Post holder will be a qualified nurse, registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) with an up‑to‑date Personal Identification Number (PIN). The role is based in the Acute Assessment Unit and requires independent clinical practice, supervision of staff, and active participation in team decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess care needs and develop, implement and evaluate nursing care programmes.
- Provide all relevant nursing care independently, demonstrate procedures and supervise qualified and unqualified staff.
- Act as a clinical resource for the ward team and promote evidence‑based nursing practice.
- Coordinate the ward and support junior nurses in the coordination of care activities.
- Work flexibly, including occasional night duty, to meet service needs and maintain continuity of care.
- Maintain safe and effective discharge processes and ensure all clinical practices comply with NMC advisory documentation.
Managerial Responsibilities
- Assist the Ward Manager in coordinating unit resources to achieve a cost‑effective, efficient care environment.
- Ensure all staff, including bank and agency personnel, work efficiently.
- Disseminate information and policies throughout the unit and ensure staff awareness of their application.
- In the Ward Manager’s absence, assume responsibility for ward environment, safety, cleanliness and equipment maintenance.
- Report incidents, handle complaints and maintain a Trust‑wide perspective on resource allocation.
- Conduct performance reviews and support staff personal development plans.
Educational Responsibilities
- Acquire new skills and knowledge to support the implementation of new management systems (e.g. computer skills, budget management).
- Identify personal educational needs in collaboration with the Ward Manager.
- Mentor and pre‑ccept newly qualified staff and actively participate in teaching, supervision and direction of nurses.
- Support the Ward Manager in preparing the clinical area for quality review and learning environment improvement.
- Maintain personal professional development in line with NMC guidelines and may pursue NVQ assessor training.
Professional Responsibilities
- Represent the department and Trust with professionalism and maintain requirements set by PREP.
Safeguarding Children and Adults
- Familiarise yourself with and comply with London Child Protection Procedures and protocols for safeguarding children and young people.
- Familiarise yourself with London Multi‑Agency Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Pan London Procedures and local protocols for information sharing.
- Know appropriate contact numbers and reporting lines.
- Participate in required training and supervision.
- Comply with required professional boundaries and codes of conduct.
