Main duties of the job

This post would ideally be suitable for someone with experience, however we believe in employing the right person and would help support those with less experience, provided there is a willingness to learn. We feel there are a lot of opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge of human resource management and organisational processes.

The successful candidate should be able to prioritise their workload, have excellent communication skills with staff, and work with a high degree of accuracy. The ideal candidate should have effective time management and an ability to manage and prioritise their workload without supervision.

About us

In an environment that promotes an individuals personal and professional development, this role would be suitable for an established Assistant/Deputy Practice Manager with experience working in primary care, or a new but highly competent and motivated individual. We serve approximately 15,000 socially and culturally diverse patients and work from a large modern Primary Care Health Centre. We are a multidisciplinary team consisting of doctors, GP trainees, pharmacists, paramedics, nurses, physiotherapists and our clinical support team including GP Assistants, and are looking for an individual with a breadth of management skills to support the Practice Manager in leading our busy and high‑performing Haringey practice.

Job responsibilities

One of several key management positions within the practice, the post holder will support and be responsible to the Practice Manager by:

  • Supporting the management of the day‑to‑day running of the practice by managing daily routine.
  • Responsible for HR and employment law requirements within the practice.
  • Leading on appointment management, providing administrative support and services to all members of the Practice Team.
  • Leading on clinical management and provision of administrative support and services to all members of the Practice team (involving the management of data to and from the clinical patient database, as well as the monitoring and reporting of the data against service specifications).
  • Supporting the effective delivery of patient services.
  • Managing Fire, Health & Safety.
  • Overseeing and providing redundancy for IM&T matters.
  • Deputising as required.

While there is some task division, there will be some necessary overlaps with the Practice Manager. There will be a real need to be prepared to deal with the unscripted and the unexpected.

Authority is delegated from the Practice Manager.

Successful candidates will join on a fixed term contract, with a planned transition to a permanent contract expected on successful completion of the initial fixed‑term period.
