Overview

Astute People is partnered with a Waste Management and Recycling company, to recruit for a Depot Manager for their site in Sheffield.

The vital Depot/Business Manager role comes with a basic salary of £56,000 + Car or Car Allowance (£6,600 per annum) + up to 20% Bonus + Private medical + other benefits.

Responsibilities and duties

Reporting to the Area Manager, you will be responsible for:

• Oversee site operations including finance, business growth, planning, and team leadership.
• Ensure services are safe, efficient, budget-friendly, and meet standards.
• Lead and support the team, encouraging growth, positivity, and the organisation’s values.
• Set goals, review performance, and give feedback to drive team success.
• Track operations, identify improvements, and apply best practices.
• Promote customer focus to achieve top service and operational results.
• Manage budgets, resources, and efficient recycling/disposal solutions.
• Provide clear and accurate performance reports.
• Improve efficiency through digital tools, asset use, and cost management.
• Stay aware of market trends, competitors, and growth opportunities.
• Act as Transport Manager with responsibility for fleet operations.
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders, partners, and regulators.
• Monitor competition and develop strategies to stay ahead.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

• Ideally an IOSH Managing Safely qualification
• Transport CPC
• Ideally a qualification in Leadership and Management

Personal skills, prior experience and knowledge

The Depot Manager role would suit someone who has:

• Somebody with prior depot/business manager experience in a logistics environment
• Ideally have experience working in the waste/recycling industry
• Strong commercial and financial acumen with budget responsibility of £10m+
• Fleet Management experience
• Good leadership experience in managing large teams
