Overview

Lead role for an experienced Dental Nurse to provide, maintain, develop and manage autonomously the nursing care provided by the Maxillo facial and Orthodontic Outpatient Department.

Responsibilities
  • Lead in the development and management of Nurse Led Oral Health clinics.
  • Ensure the provision and maintenance of a high quality standard of multidisciplinary patient care.
  • Setting standards of care in conjunction with respective disciplines, co-ordinate services so that total patient care needs are identified ensuring individual patient care is given. This involves regular reviewing and updating of patient information, working protocols and pathways.
  • This post will provide managerial/clinical advice and support to staff and patients.
  • The successful candidate will maintain a safe working environment, being aware of the necessity to comply with Health & Safety regulations, maintenance and provision of equipment bearing in mind Infection Control policies, decontamination processes and COSHH requirements.
  • The successful candidate is accountable for and manages budgets and ensures cost effectiveness.
  • The post holder will ensure that services are designed and delivered to the highest standard, and are re-designed to meet the needs of patient pathways and performance targets.
  • The post holder will audit and measure patient experience within the area and create and implement actions accordingly.
  • Team leader of Dental Nursing team and takes responsibility for all aspects of the day to day management and nursing care provided by the Maxillo-facial and Orthodontic department.
  • Independently makes complex decisions on staffing issues and clinical need to meet 18 week targets. Organizes 'ad hoc' clinics when required. Authorize overtime for nursing staff where appropriate. Liaises with management in regards to medical/surgical staffing and financial implication.
  • Liaise with Community Dental team during staff sickness and shortages. To ensure correct skill mix to continue services.
  • Responsibilities for ensuring all patients receive high standards of care in a safe environment during local anesthetic surgical procedures.
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate skill mix for variety of clinical needs and demands of the service. Increased services, now include Maxilla-facial, oral surgery, orthodontic and restorative dentistry.
  • Develop and Responsible for Nurse led Oral Health Education clinics. Ensures staff clinical skills are fully competent and maintained.
  • Responsible for providing emotional and psychological care for phobic/anxious patients and those receiving bad news.
  • Responsible for providing a constant source of highly specialized advice/care for patients following surgical and Orthodontic treatment.
