About the role

As a Database Analyst, you’ll provide technical expertise and support for Serco’s IT data products, with a focus on backup and database services. You’ll play a key role in maintaining and optimising systems to ensure reliability, performance, and availability. This role is ideal for someone with strong technical skills, a problem-solving mindset, and a collaborative approach to teamwork.

Key Accountabilities
  • Manage, monitor, and optimize SQL Server instances to ensure uptime, performance, and efficiency, including tuning, indexing, and integrity checks.
  • Diagnose and resolve database-related technical issues, conduct root cause analysis, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
  • Implement security measures, monitor for vulnerabilities, and ensure compliance with audit and forensic requirements.
  • Design, test, and maintain backup, archiving, and restore strategies to meet recovery objectives (RPO / RTO).
  • Work closely with engineers, product managers, and IT staff to ensure seamless integration and provide technical escalation support.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, policies, and best practices while contributing to the team’s knowledge base.
  • Drive the adoption of tools and automated processes to enhance database management, capacity planning, and operational efficiency.
Skills & Experience
  • 4+ years of experience in a DBA or similar role with expert knowledge of SQL databases, utilisation, backup, archiving, and storage solutions.
  • Broad experience with cloud platforms (, AWS, Azure) is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrable experience with Powershell, SolarWinds, IAC and Terraform.
  • Dedicated to delivering high-quality user experiences, exceeding expectations, and maintaining service excellence.
  • Proactively seeks opportunities to enhance products, processes, and overall efficiency.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and adapt to changing project requirements and priorities.
  • Able to manage workload effectively in dynamic settings while maintaining high standards.
