LOCATION: Hybrid Working with your time split between home and the office in Bedford (MK44). This role can be based in either UK or Portugal – Local Salary Ranges Will Apply.

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Data Lead / BI Business Intelligence & Insights Manager / Principal Data Engineer with proven leadership in a technology environment, managing teams of Data Engineers, BI Developers, and Data Analysts.

As the Data Lead / BI Business Intelligence & Insights Manager / Principal Data Engineer, you’ll ensure the company’s data is accurate, secure, and fully leveraged. You’ll create a single source of truth, turning information into actionable insights and uncovering opportunities for competitive advantage. You’ll design and evolve data infrastructure, adopting emerging technologies to boost performance and efficiency. Partnering with teams across the business, you’ll break down silos, maximize data value, and lead a high-performing team to deliver exceptional results.

DUTIES

Your duties include:

  • Understanding business-wide data needs and delivering accurate insights to support decision-making
  • Safeguarding data integrity, ensuring security, compliance, and reliability
  • Identifying opportunities where data can provide a competitive edge and working to realize them
  • Removing duplication and breaking down silos to improve accessibility and collaboration
  • Embracing emerging technologies to enhance data quality, speed, and efficiency
  • Leading, coaching, and inspiring a high-performing team, fostering trust, clarity, and growth

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven leadership in a technology environment, managing teams of data professionals, with a modern, people-first approach. Experience in SaaS or platform-based businesses is a plus.
  • Experience in data roles (engineering, BI, analytics, or architecture). Familiarity with data lake storage, SQL databases, NoSQL.
  • Strong understanding of database architecture, relational data modeling, data warehouse and data lake design, performance optimization, and scaling. Experience with data modernization projects and real-time data processing.
  • Proficiency in programming and query languages, including SQL and non-SQL systems, plus experience with Azure DevOps.
  • Experience across the full technology stack: server-side, database, cloud, and front-end.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to communicate complex ideas clearly to technical and non-technical teams.
  • Strategic ownership of data strategy, governance, and quality initiatives, ensuring data is accurate, compliant, and valuable.
  • Risk and compliance management experience, covering data privacy, encryption, and adherence to industry standards.

Nice to haves:

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Computer Science.
  • Background in project management, preferably with Agile (Scrum) methodologies.
  • Practical understanding of applied AI in data platforms, such as document intelligence, behavioral modeling, or automation.
