We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Data Governance & Controls Lead. The base location for this role is London.

The Data Governance & Controls Lead will report directly to the Global Head of Data within the GPS Data SVS, where you will play a crucial role in supporting the SVS to establish and execute a comprehensive Data Product.

As a Governance Lead, the job holder will implement robust product governance frameworks that ensure data is not only fit for purpose but also recognised as a trusted, strategic enterprise asset that enhances business performance.

Responsibilities will include aligning initiatives with a unified framework and capability, while concentrating on product strategy, roadmaps, and objectives. The role holder will collaborate closely with product leads, providing essential support to advance governance initiatives effectively.

In this role you will:

  • Define and lead the GPS Data Governance & Controls strategy: build and execute a comprehensive control framework covering data quality, lineage, privacy, retention, and access, tracking centralised OKRs for performance measurement.
  • Own data governance, control policies and standards: interpret Group Data Policy, strategy and regulatory requirements into actionable GPS-specific controls and monitoring mechanisms.
  • Implement robust assurance mechanisms: establish key data controls (preventive, detective, corrective) across data ingestion, transformation, and consumption.
  • Act as the primary liaison with GPS Risk & Control, Operational Risk, and Internal Audit on data-related matters.
  • Drive control automation: leverage AI, data lineage tooling, and monitoring platforms to industrialise and automate control checks and reporting.
  • Chair GPS Data Governance forum, report key risk indicators (KRIs), Data Maturity Metrics to the GPS ExCo.

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Sound knowledge of the CIB business including Payments
  • Experience in data management, control and governance role, with good awareness of industry data standards (e.g. GS1, ISO, NACE)
  • Experienced in outlining a vision, strategy and roadmap for development
  • Structured analytical problem-solving skills, able to breakdown complex problems and find solutions and options
  • Strong leadership skills evidenced by achievement of objectives with strong organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to build and maintain relations with senior stakeholders
