Data Engineer

📍 Buckinghamshire -Contract

Are you a Data Engineer who loves building data pipelines, working with cloud technologies, and enabling better data-driven decisions?

We’re looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join our client’s Technology team and play a key role in designing, delivering, and optimising modern data solutions.

Our client is a retail brand currently undergoing a significant, large‑scale transformation programme — making this an exciting time to join and shape the future of their data landscape

What You’ll Be Doing

• Building and maintaining scalable data pipelines
• Delivering data enhancements using Azure and modern data tools
• Acting as SME for cloud technologies including Microsoft Fabric and Azure Synapse
• Using Azure DevOps, CI/CD and IaC to deliver high‑quality deployments
• Working closely with BI & Business Systems to improve data accessibility
• Designing and implementing data engineering solutions for complex business needs
• Helping shape the organisation’s long‑term data strategy
• Supporting data cataloguing and data governance initiatives

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years’ experience in data engineering or data reporting (retail/FMCG/multi-site experience ideal)
• Strong skills with Azure Data Factory, Data Lakes, SQL (cloud/on‑prem), Fabric
• Experience with Azure Synapse or Microsoft Fabric
• Hands‑on DevOps experience (Git, code deployment, IaC)
• Strong SQL skills + bonus for Python
• Experience with Alteryx, data modelling & governance tools (Purview/Unity Catalog)
• Ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical teams
• Strong stakeholder and communication skills
• Relevant Azure certifications (AZ‑900, DP‑900, DP‑203, DP‑600, DP‑700)
